SC Edison’s Charge Ready Home Program: A Quick Guide
Southern California Edison (SCE) offers the Charge Ready Home program to make upgrading your home’s electrical panel more affordable for the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charger. This initiative provides substantial financial support, offering rebates of up to $4,200 for eligible single-family homes.
The program targets homeowners who need to enhance their electrical panels to accommodate a Level 2 (L2) EV charger. Many older homes have electrical panels with less than 200 amps, which may not support the added demand of an L2 charger. Upgrading to a panel with 200 amps or more can improve the efficiency of your home’s electrical system, reduce risks of electrical fires or panel malfunctions, and potentially lower energy costs. Additionally, a new, upgraded panel can add value to your property and support additional electric devices or home expansions.
To qualify for the Charge Ready Home rebates, applicants must meet specific criteria. Two primary rebate options are available:
Income-Qualified Rebate: Homeowners from low-income households, defined as earning less than 80% of the area median income (AMI) or those enrolled in qualifying public assistance programs, can receive a rebate of $4,200.
Geographic-Based Rebate: Residents living in designated disadvantaged communities (DACs), as identified by the SB353 Disadvantaged Communities Map, are eligible for a rebate of $2,100.
This program aims to make EV ownership more accessible and affordable by supporting necessary infrastructure upgrades. Interested customers should apply to take advantage of the rebates and ensure their homes are ready for modern electric vehicle charging needs.
